Welcome to our Aki Kaurismäki website!

This is a website about the Finnish film director Aki Kaurismäki, created and maintained by Orimattila Town Library. The purpose of this website is to awaken interest for the artistic work of Aki Kaurismäki.

We wanted to create this website to collect information and material on the director whose films are popular not only now but surely in decades to come as well.

The English version of the website contains a biography of Aki Kaurismäki and essays on his films written by Finnish film scholars, journalists and enthusiasts. The authors are Markku Koski, Satu Kyösola, Leena Lepistö, Lauri Timonen and Sakari Toiviainen. The articles were translated from Finnish to English by Aretta Vähälä, with the exception of the essay by Sakari Toiviainen which was translated by Lola Rogers.

In addition to the material mentioned above, the Finnish version of the website contains the filmography of Aki Kaurismäki with short plot descriptions of each film; a list of the director's awards; links to other websites with information and data on him; lists of books, theses and articles written about him and his films; a list of works written by him; and quotes, both recent and older, by him. We intend to regularly update and develop this website.

Jari Paavonheimo, former library director of Orimattila Town Library, is responsible for the content of this website. The visual design of this website was created by Junnu Riihimäki (Ideakehräämö) and the technical design by Janne Riihimäki (NagreMedia ). Library assistants Aapo Erander, Annika Helastila, Aki Hirsikorpi, Elina Kelovesi, Riitta Leutola and Minna Mäkelä have assisted in collecting, editing, and recording the material on this website.

This project was supported by the Finnish Ministry of Education.
