Saimaa-ilmiö, one of the first Finnish rock music documentaries and a legendary film in its own genre, follows Tuuliajolla (Adrift), a well-known rock tour in Finland. The main characters in the film are members of three very popular bands of the time: Eppu Normaali, Hassisen kone, and Juice Leskinen Slam. Cultivating dubious humor, especially leper jokes, and discussing their views on life and society in a more serious tone through informal interview sections of the film, the bands travel on an old lake steamer from one concert to another. In the concert scenes the music takes the lead, and the bands take turns in playing their greatest hits. The last show of the virile and partly chaotic tour ends with the bands singing the Finnish national anthem.
